Participated in the open studios for the first time, opening up my studio space to the public. Displayed in the space were collections of work over a number of years as well as current projects such as the fly agaric studies. The Flower dress was created in 2012 from encasing blossom flowers in plastic acetate sheets and then hand stitching them together to create a rigid dress form. The dress has a corset back and over the years the flowers have faded but not decayed. The aging of the organic material trapped artificial material perfectly encapsulated the project it was from ‘Trapped Memories’. This project focused around Alzheimer's and loosing memories or them being ‘trapped’ within. Also showing in the open studio was a textile piece from the project which formed part of a dress made of discoloured pink netting where small objects and personal effects were sewn into the material eventually leading to increasing amounts of pills surrounding the mementos. The pills symbolise the medical intervention to stop the loss of memories but often leading to nothing but pills in the end.
