Prioritise Your Pleasure focuses on dismantling the stigmas and societal shame around masturbation. It was created in response to the orgasm gap, the miss-information and lack of sex education, particularly for people with vulvas. The series of paintings depict colourful and expressive dildos and sex toys, which are often adorned with menstrual blood or lube. The artworks exude a colourful joyfulness while boldly, and unapologetically, celebrate masturbation and owning your pleasure. This series of work seeks to dispel the shame and highlight what a taboo subject this still is for many in discovering their sexuality. Pleasure is linked closely to the inequality and gender biases we have in our society. Pleasure is synonymous with freedom, joy in living, bodily autonomy and is indicative of celebrating your body and enjoying it. The biases in our patriarchal society often discounts these needs, freedoms, wants and pleasures as lesser. These artworks aim to engage the viewer with both the playful expression of sexuality and to also question the pleasure inequality and negative connotations society puts on masturbation for many.
